The Cubby Hole — a special find in a quaint area

The Cubby Hole

You just gotta love fall weddings. For me, it harkens back to when we could travel safely with the whole family by plane for a lovely New Jersey wedding in September of 2019. I was so impressed with my visit to The Cubby Hole back then that I wrote up a review before I had even started my blog. It would be a terrible waste of a lovely review to not be able to include it now, so here it is. Before reading, imagine pre-pandemic times of happy gatherings with family and friends. I should also note, they moved to a new, larger location just a few steps away on the same street as of January 30, 2020, so now there’s even more room to indulge in all your coffee and breakfast desires.

When you travel east across time zones, you are going to need some serious infusions of coffee. That was the case on a gorgeous fall day in late September. The family and I found ourselves in search of a quick breakfast to-go that would also provide some great coffee to accompany it. After driving around for a while, we finally found the perfect spot. On a lovely tree-lined street in what appeared to be a quaint historic area, The Cubby Hole offered both breakfast and coffee.

The Friday morning we visited, they were pretty busy, but although it’s a small place, their staff was working hard to tend to all of their customers. Since we were traveling with our four-year-old in tow, we opted to take our breakfast and coffee to go. The service is super friendly, but prepare to be patient when they are busy. It can get rather crowded inside. If you plan to order food to go, you’ll definitely want to wait outside for your order so as not to be in the way. There are a limited number of tables and virtually all of them were taken when we visited. We were greeted by friendly staff who were efficient at getting our order and serving us our coffee drinks pretty quickly.

I tried one of The Cubby Hole’s house made cinnamon mochas, and it was very delicious. I highly recommend checking this out if you have a sweet tooth. My husband enjoyed his latte, as it was very smooth. The espresso in both of our drinks seemed to have the perfect amount of extraction. In fact, as for the latte, it was probably the best one we had during our long weekend trip to New Jersey. My 4-yr-old enjoyed his “chocolate steamer” (it’s our special name for hot chocolate) and said it was really good. You gotta trust those youthful palates.

As for food, they also have wonderful croissant sandwiches and a full breakfast menu. We decided to indulge in the homemade donuts, but they were definitely not your traditional raised donut. These indulgent treats were more like cake donuts and tasted like they had a nice cinnamon glaze on them. It was an unexpected twist, but it went especially nicely with my mocha. If you have a sweet tooth, it will most certainly be properly tended to during your visit.

Overall, we were treated to super friendly service, plus we enjoyed hanging out in front and taking in the lovely area while we waited. They turned around our order pretty quickly and we were on our way to our next New Jersey adventure. Visit their Facebook page if you’d like to see some of their incredible coffee and food porn. I highly recommend visiting The Cubby Hole if you’re in the Moorestown, New Jersey area.
